Energy Technology List

Helping businesses and organisations become more energy efficient and reduce carbon footprint.

The ETL scheme, backed by the UK Government’s Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, needed a complete overhaul. It had outdated and incomplete information that was difficult to find in the website’s chaotic information architecture. The manufacturer portal holding energy efficient products database was complex, with a steep learning curve to master product applications. Both with high interaction costs for users and unsatisfactory accessibility standards, the overall service provided by the scheme required a rethink and redesign.

Challenge

Kicking off the long-term project with a robust discovery, the main issues quickly became clear. Based on earlier UX research and new hypothesis, we spoke with a number of different users and stakeholders to pin down the real problems in a structured order. Following a UX audit and synthesis of all generated insights from the research phase, we redefined the purpose and value of the ETL services. The result was a digital roadmap for the next 3-year period that laid out the attempt to revive the entire scheme and make it relevant in times of soaring energy costs and increasingly demanding sustainability goals for UK businesses and organisations.

My role:

Action

  • UX audit for the public website and manufacturer portal

  • User interviews

  • Data analysis

  • Digital roadmap creation

  • IA and UX redesign

  • Conceptual design for new features

  • Continuous optimisation of UX/UI

  • Marketing automation and optimisation

  • Quality assurance and user acceptance testing

By optimising and redesigning the ETL website, we implemented updates and new content promotion as well as facilitated better access to the manufacturer portal. Our holistic changes improved accessibility and usability, thus enhancing the overall user experience with more time on site and better engagement.
